Online and In-person Public Involvement: Access Management on US-31

Project Overview

Location: Homewood (Jefferson County)

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), in conjunction with the City of Homewood, are proposing operational improvements along AL-3 (US-31) to address concerns regarding congestion and pedestrian accomodations from Old Montgomery Highway to Ventura Avenue in Homewood, Alabama. The scope of work of the project will include closures and/or reduction of existing driveways and median openings, addition of concrete medians, installation of pedestrian facilities, ramps and crosswalks, traffic signal modifications, and traffic channelization using curbs and concrete islands. Additional work will entail roadway resurfacing and traffic striping. No right of way aquisition is required for this project. The road will remain open during construction but intermittent lane closures are expected.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. ALDOT is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.

All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Friday, November 28, 2025.
