Project Overview
Location: Sulligent (Lamar County)
This project is located on AL-17 north of the City of Sulligent in Lamar County, Alabama. This project proposes to replace a total of five (5) bridges. The bridges are over the Buttahatchee River and its four reliefs. The total length of the project is 5537 feet along AL-17. The existing roadway consists of two 12 ft lanes with 4 ft shoulders (2 ft paved). The existing bridges are 24 ft wide curb to curb and vary in length from 133.5 ft to 397.5 ft. The proposed roadway will be built on the existing alignment and consist of two 12 ft lanes with 8 ft shoulders (6 ft paved). The proposed bridges will be 40 ft wide and vary in length from 180 ft to 500 ft. The existing main channel bridge along with four relief bridges will be replaced in the same location by closing the roadway during construction. Construction will be phased to allow access to adjacent properties for as great a duration as is practical. A detour will be utilized during project construction using Interstate 22 and US Highway 278 (AL-171 and AL-118).
The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
