The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is proposing an access management project in Northport, Tuscaloosa County along the AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Boulevard corridor that will preserve roadway capacity and maintain traffic mobility while reducing conflict points that degrade the roadway’s safety performance. The project limits extend from the intersection of AL-69 Ramps and 5th Street on the southern end to the intersection of AL-6/US-82/McFarland Boulevard on the northern end. The purpose of this public involvement is to inform the public of the project and obtain input from the people who use this route.
AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Blvd is classified as principal arterial roadway which means that it carries a major portion of trips entering and leaving the city. The annual average daily traffic (AADT) for this corridor is approximately 40,000 vehicles. Operationally, the primary goal is to service north/south movement of traffic along AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Blvd while providing reasonable, efficient, and safe access to adjacent developments or side streets.
This project proposes traffic signal modifications, striping modifications, turn lane extensions, roadway realignment, median construction, closure of median openings, closure of driveways and modifications of driveways. This project will also require additional right-of-way and temporary construction easements.
More information about the proposed plan can be found in Project Maps and Downloads below.
